Gaza City, May 20, 2025 — As Israel intensifies its military operations in Gaza, the humanitarian situation has reached a critical point, with over 53,000 Palestinians reported killed since October 2023. In response to mounting international pressure, including from France, the UK, and Canada, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to permit a limited resumption of food aid to the besieged enclave.

The new aid plan involves distributing basic food supplies through militarized hubs operated by U.S.-backed private contractors. However, this approach has drawn sharp criticism from humanitarian organizations and the United Nations, which argue that it risks further displacing civilians and "weaponizing aid." Oxfam and other NGOs have condemned the plan as insufficient and overly controlled, warning that it fails to address the dire needs of Gaza's population.

Conditions in Gaza have deteriorated severely, with residents resorting to bartering for food and burning waste for fuel. The Israeli government's imposition of restrictive registration rules on NGOs and its push for the privatization of aid have further hampered relief efforts. As key hospitals are targeted and humanitarian access becomes increasingly precarious, there are growing fears that critical assistance efforts may soon be forced to halt entirely.

The international community continues to urge Israel to allow unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza to prevent a full-scale famine and further loss of life.
